August 10th returned from 2 weeks backpacking in Europe with 12 students.  Amazing adventure.

We took a ferry boat on lake Thundersee in Interlaken, Switzerland.  The ferry boat criss-crosses the lake and stops at small villages nestled along the lake.  We got off at the 4th stop and walked up through the tiny village and then climbed higher to a small stone church/chapel that was on the hill overlooking the lake.

We had brought food for our “picnic” lunch and sat in a circle to pass the bread and cheese (swiss cheese & swiss bread).  The sounds of organ music was coming from the church.  Soon, an elderly woman (the organist) came out the door and greeted us.  (she had been practicing for Sunday service)

I told her how beautiful it was to hear organ music and asked if she could play some more.   She smiled and invited us in to the church (just a small, one room sanctuary with she and the pipe organ in the balcony)

We sang Amazing Grace while she played and we gave requests and sang some more.  When one student requested “Blessed Be Your Name” – she smiled and said – “You all love Jesus , I can tell.”

When we met outside she told us , “I know that Jesus sent you here for me today.”    I told her that I thought that Jesus had sent HER for US!    She got tears in her eyes and said that it was such a blessing to hear us sing – to know that we loved Jesus – “So few people here in Switzerland love Jesus”,  “So few come to this church on Sunday”

Her name is Heidi, she is 71 and she loves Jesus!    (I’m sending her chocolate because I told her that Switzerland just doesn’t have any good chocolate! 😊 )
