“Hello, My good friend” said Erich Balmer as he picked me up and gave me a big “bear hug”! It was just last week when our team arrived in Interlaken, Switzerland. We were just sitting down at a picnic table to eat some bread, cheese, salami and fruit when Erich arrived unannounced. Erich Balmer is the retired owner of Balmer’s Hostel and Tent Village and a very influential man in the Swiss tourism industry.
He asked what our plans were for the evening. (long story short) He got us loaded up into a van and he personally drove us up to his private chalet in the Swiss Alps, talking as we went, – dropped us off, told us he’d pick us up at 4:00 the next afternoon! – so – we spent the night and all next day way up in the Alps – it was gorgeous! We shared testimonies of God’s grace for over 2 hours around a campfire.
God has been very, very good to Live 10:27 Ministries. Besides just completing another backpacking trip in Europe (there were 8 of us on our May trip – Copenhagen to Zurich), we are in the midst of getting a team of 16 ready for another backpacking adventure from Dublin, Ireland to Prague, Czech. God keeps using these backpacking trips to challenge, stretch and change lives. (You can check Live 10:27 Ministries Facebook page for pictures and details of the trips)
Our March newsletter shared of Sandy’s time at West Nairobi School in Nairobi, Kenya, where he was the “spiritual emphasis week” speaker. Two of the teachers from that school are joining our July/August backpacking trip in Europe.
Our ministry is growing! At recent board meetings, we unanimously approved adding Higher Ground (a Christian gap year program started by former students of Sandy, Caleb and Sarah Arnold) There are many details that will need to be ironed out and worked through but we are excited to have this young couple and ministry be an arm of Live 10:27 Ministries. Caleb and Sarah went on the May backpacking trip for 7 days (they had to come home early due to obligations with work) You can find out more about Higher Ground by checking out their web-site. www.highergroundgapyear.com Share this with others who may be interested.
We hope to have Caleb and Sarah be full-time “staff” with Live 10:27 Ministries as funding permits. Sandy will be involved in teaching classes at Higher Ground and continue to speak in many Christian school chapels throughout the school year. This seems to be a perfect fit for Higher Ground and Live 10:27 Ministries. Our purposes and goals are the same, make disciples and encourage the Body of Christ to grow in its Love for God and Love for People.
Sandy is still trying to discipline himself to work on writing a book. God has done so many amazing things through over 70 short-term mission’s trips that we feel a responsibility to tell those stories. It is hoped that the book will serve as a written memorial stone of God’s grace and God’s provision.
Thank You so much for your prayers and your investment in this ministry. Any financial contribution will be used to make a difference in lives. God has always provided and we trust that HE will provide as we take these steps of faith to grow this ministry.
